Babies can lose the newborn curl and newborn sleepiness within 14 days of birth. If you’re looking for that little bottom to be up and the baby to be mouldable, please schedule your session within the first 14 days after birth. If your baby is awake during the night, morning sessions generally work better as they will be sleepier.Dress your little one in something that is easily removed without disturbing them too much. Have whatever clothing your baby is wearing beforehand including the nappy on loosely; this avoids red marks on your beautiful baby’s skin.
Whether it is Summer or Winter, the area I work in with your newborn needs to be very warm, warm enough to be uncomfortable for adults. The warm air not only keeps your bub cosy while having their photos taken but it also allows them to be photographed in bare skin. Sleeping newborn portraits create wonderful memories of little ones who are growing so rapidly by the day.
Keep your baby as active as possible prior to the photo session. Babies have awake periods as well, and in order to be ready for their photos they must be comfortable. Please have your baby well fed and burped right before the session; a hungry baby is a cranky baby!
If parents and siblings are being photographed with Bub the key is neutrals....
Keep your bases fairly neutral with denims, white, cream, browns or greys. Soft neutrals draw all your attention to the gorgeous faces and expression people in the image and most important to the perfectly gorgeous, nude little bubba! It’s soft, simple and timeless
A typical newborn session will go for approximately 2.5 hours, the younger the
baby the less likely we will need the whole of the allocated time, but I still recommend allowing for the full time just in case as all bubs are very different. Having this extra time period allows for any extra feedings, nappy changes and spurts of crankiness.
No matter what your baby does, know that I am a mum to 3… I know they all have their moments and I will not stress if bub has a cry, needs a cuddle or lets one rip on me :)
Just try to RELAX and enjoy the moments being captured
