Over the years I have had customers say "wow you have such a way with babies" or simply ask how I was able to settle their little one so quickly. Well my secret is this.. and its not a secret at all.. just be calm... and the bub will feel that with you! Yesterday I had the pleasure of working with one of the sleepiest, calmest babies i have ever worked with, she didn't cry once... Of course she let me know a few times she wasn't happy with a little "eh..eh" but then I would just give her a little cuddle or speak to her softly or even just touch her so she knew i was there.. and all of the above worked and she would settle instantly. I had the room warm enough for her to be comfortable naked (which had me sweating like a marathon runner :-| haha) and chilled music playing softly in the background. It created a calming environment for not just bub but for me also, so when she did begin to fuss I was able to stay calm and be there for her. I think the most important thing to remember when it comes to settling newborns is that this tiny little person is used to being very warm, held very snugly inside of their mum and they are used to hearing a lot of different noises, as its not silent inside your stomach. So creating an environment fairly close to what the little bub is used to will help to calm and settle them, thus creating the perfect situation for their newborn photos. This method can also help you at home too!! But if I can give any advise at all (as a mother of 3 myself)... My biggest advice would be to listen to your baby and do what you feel is right. Everyone has advise... and that is awesome... and some of it can be very helpful, but this is your little person, do what works for the both of you! Bee
