Booked our shoot..now.. what should we wear???Here are some of my ideas and tips on what to wear for your session!
My first tip is to plan ahead.. there is nothing worse then waiting till the day before your shoot and not being able to find anything so just 'wacking something together'. As soon as you book your shoot, plan your outfit. I am a massive fan of pinterest inspiration boards for this kind of thing and have a few links at the bottom of this post :-) Tip two would be to consider the location of your shoot when choosing your outfits. If you have chosen to have a shoot at the beach, you in high heels, hubby in a suit and tie may not necessarily be the best option. However if we held your shoot in the city in front of a gorgeous heritage building that would be perfect. My next tip would be to avoid wearing all white or all black in your family photos, so to the white and denim look is quite outdated as well. Think coordination not matchy-matchy. When I have my own photos done I like to pick something for one of my kids to wear that is their style but a touch nicer then the 'every day outfit' and then pull a few colours from that outfit to use on the rest of us . I try to play with different textures, add layers and sometimes a subtle pattern here and there. We would NEVER leave the house in matching outfits so I would never do it for photos. Its nice to look at an images and see the real you I think. BUT for Newborn Portraits I say neutrals all the way!!!. White, cream, browns or greys... Using these softer colours will soften the overall image and keep the focus on the faces and connection rather then the outfits. Accessories are great and help to add a pop of colour or a splash of glamour to your look but dont go overboard as they can also be quite distracting and take the attention away from the important part.. you! A headband can really girly up a pretty dress, a nice necklace can add some colour to a neutral base and then shoes... please remember that your shoes are apart of your outfit.. chose them wisely.. hehe Avoid*Everyone avoid graphic t shirts and tops with logos as they are way too distracting. *Ladies, remove the hair tie around your wrist..& make sure your nail polish is free of chipping. *Runners... dont wear them! They are great for comfort but not so much for a family portrait or engagement session..
